Recently, the members of the Vigilance Hose Fire Company along with Upper Nazareth Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a dwelling fire on N. New Street. As fire units were mustering for response, officers from the Nazareth Police Department were first on the scene and were able to quickly knock down the fire with portable fire extinguishers. Engine 5012 was the first apparatus on scene followed by Truck 5021, Engine 5011 and Engine 5413. With the fire extinguished, crews conducted a search of the house, turned the power and gas to the house off and ventilated the remaining smoke from the house.

The family was temporarily displaced and was staying with other family members until repairs and clean up can be made.

We remind everyone about cooking fire safety to have extinguishers readily accessible, and avoid using water on grease fires which can quickly spread the fire into an unmanageable one. Covering pots and pans with a lid or using baking powder can also quickly extinguish fires before they can grow. If you cannot quickly manage a small fire, it's more important to safely evacuate your house and call 9-1-1 than stay and fight. Be sure to have a pre-designated meeting area outside your home for family members to go in case they get separated.
